N.A.P.P. – National Patients Champion for the Self Care Forum

N.A.P.P. is the patient champion for the national Self Care Forum championing a patient-led ‘bottom up’ approach that empowers patients to look after themselves better when they have a minor ailment or everyday illness and supporting practices to communicate self care messages to their patients.

N.A.P.P. has developed with PPGs a guide to Self Care to help PPGs support their practice in conveying Self Care messages. Members can click here for this guide.

A series of Fact Sheets for common ailments have been developed by the Self Care Forum Board with the aim of helping clinicians and patients to discuss issues around self care within the practice consultation and especially how to handle symptoms in the future.

Stephanie Varah, N.A.P.P.’s then Chief Executive launched the project entitled ‘The grassroots approach to self-care – empowering patients’ at the 12th Annual Self-Care Conference held in London in November 2011 which N.A.P.P. co-hosted jointly with the Proprietary Association of Great Britain, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
